What to know about Berehove

Tradition holds that Berehove was founded in 1063 by the Hungarian prince Lampert, son of King B?la I, who built a palace here. After the destruction of 1241, King B?la IV invited settlers from Saxony in 1247 and granted free trade. From 1271 the town was the seat of Bereg County, in 1342 it became a royal town, and on 22 May 1703 Tam?s Esze proclaimed Francis II R?k?czi's uprising against the Habsburgs on its market square.
