Zavodske in brief

Zavodske is a young town, founded in 1928 as the settlement of Stalinka around a new sugar factory: the foundation was laid on 7 November 1928 and the first season began on 3 October 1929. A technical college opened in 1931, a distillery in 1934 and an instrument plant, now Skloprylad, in 1959. Renamed Chervonozavodske in 1961, it became a town in 1977 and received the name Zavodske on 4 February 2016. The town honours its defenders with a monument to the fallen heroes of Ukraine.

Notable people of Zavodske

Cybernetics scientist and academician Vasyl Deineka (1949–2014) was born in nearby Bodakva, now part of the Zavodske community, and finished school here. Volleyball player Volodymyr Ostapenko (born 1998), a member of the Ukrainian national team, is a native of the town.

Zavodske today

The town lies between the Sula and Artopolot rivers, 12 km from Lokhvytsia, with Sula station on the Bakhmach–Kremenchuk line. Sights include the zemstvo school in Brysi designed by Opanas Slastion and the Taras Shevchenko monument, while the local grain elevator is described as Europe's largest by design capacity.
