What to know about Chutove

Chutove is first recorded in 1743, in the will of Poltava colonel Vasyl Kochubei. By 1764 it had 82 households, a church and several shops, and in the 1760s it belonged to the Velyki Budyshcha company of the Poltava Regiment. A boys' school opened in 1863 and a girls' school in 1869, both under the patronage of the Ritter family. Before 1917 the Skoropadsky family owned an estate here. Chutove became a district centre in 1923.

Chutove is the birthplace of Pavlo Ritter (1872–1939), literary scholar, Sanskritist and translator, one of the first Ukrainian Indologists.

The settlement lies on the left bank of the Kolomak at the mouth of the Chutivka, 55 km from Poltava on the M03 highway. It has a local history museum, the Museum of Two Wars and the Trakehner equestrian centre, which breeds Trakehner horses and hosts show-jumping events.
