A short history of Demydivka

Demydivka is known from 1570, when it was called Demydiv after a man named Demyd. In 1629, together with neighbouring Lishnia, it had just 21 houses, and in 1702 locals supported a peasant uprising. Until 1860 it belonged to the Harchynski landowners. In 1906 it was a small town of Kniahynyn volost in Dubno county with 89 households and 759 residents, and large fairs were held three times a year. Demydivka became a district centre in 1940; the district was abolished in 1962 and restored in 1996.

Demydivka is the birthplace of journalist and public figure Serhii Omelchuk (born 1956), Honoured Journalist of Ukraine. The town honours native Roman Zubchuk (1993–2015), a senior soldier of the Kulchytskyi Battalion who was killed in the Russian-Ukrainian war.

The settlement lies in the central Volhynian Upland, with the Zhabychi River, a tributary of the Styr, on its northern edge.
