Hlobyne: a little history

Hlobyne is first recorded in 1725 as the Hlobynskyi farmstead near the old Romodan road, where the Apostol family kept its herd; a dam was built here in 1728. By 1732 it was a village owned by Hetman Danylo Apostol. The stone St Michael's Church rose in 1833–1837, a railway station on the Kremenchuk–Romodan–Libava line opened in 1878, and a sugar factory was built in 1910–1912. Hlobyne became a town on 16 December 1976.

Notable people of Hlobyne

Natives include Central Rada member Arkadii Stepanenko (1889–1938), glass artist Ivan Zarytskyi (1929–2009), actor and playwright Mykhailo Savchenko (1914–1982) and Kozak System guitarist Oleksandr Demianenko (b. 1978).

Hlobyne today

The town lies on the Sukhyi Omelnyk, a seasonal tributary of the Psel. It has monuments to Taras Shevchenko, to the victims of the Holodomor and to Zaporozhian scribe Ivan Hloba (2012), and its economy rests on sugar, dairy and grain processing. We deliver bouquets to any address in Hlobyne.
