Yavornytske: from Ivanivka station to a new name

The settlement appeared in 1875 during the building of the railway as Ivanivka station, named after a neighbouring village. The station was later renamed Illarionove after Count Illarion Vorontsov-Dashkov (1837–1916), owner of the surrounding lands. Illarionove became an urban-type settlement in 1938, and 315 of its residents died on the fronts of the Second World War. On 26 September 2024 it was renamed Yavornytske in honour of the historian Dmytro Yavornytsky.

The name behind the settlement

Dmytro Yavornytsky (1855–1940) was a historian of the Zaporozhian Cossacks, and the settlement now bears his name.

Yavornytske today

The settlement lies near the source of the Maiachka River. Bronze Age burial mounds (3rd–1st millennium BC) and Scythian kurgans have been excavated nearby. Local landmarks include the Church of the Iveron Icon of the Mother of God, the Church of the Nativity in the Central Park and a military memorial. The railway from Nyzhnodniprovsk-Vuzol to Synelnykove passes through. Flowers can be delivered to any part of the settlement.
