Koziatyn, a town born of the railway

Koziatyn is first recorded in a 1731 survey of Zhytomyr county, when the village had just five houses. The modern town grew around a station of the Kyiv–Balta railway: the branch to Berdychiv was completed in July 1870, and on 7 July 1874 Koziatyn became a small town. In December 1917 General Pavlo Skoropadskyi had his headquarters here, and on 11 December 1918 the Directorate signed an agreement in Koziatyn on the evacuation of German troops from Ukraine. Koziatyn became a town in 1938.

Notable people of Koziatyn

Koziatyn is the birthplace of engineer Andrii Kostikov (1899–1950), one of the creators of the Katyusha rocket launcher, film director Viktor Ivanov (1909–1981), who made Chasing Two Hares, mycologist Mariia Zerova (1902–1994) and Anatolii Yarmolenko, leader of the Belarusian band Siabry. National Guard serviceman Dmytro Finashyn (b. 1994), a native, was awarded the title Hero of Ukraine.

Koziatyn today

The town sits at the headwaters of the Huiva River, 64 km from Vinnytsia, and Koziatyn I is a major junction of the South-Western Railway. Its pride is the 1889 station building shaped like a white steamship, designed by Valerian Kulykovskyi, next to the water tower (1888–1889) and the early 20th-century zemstvo post office. Also worth seeing are the Railway Workers' Labour Glory monument, the Mykhailo Hrushevskyi monument (2004) and the Town History Museum. We deliver bouquets to any address in Koziatyn.
