Kulykivka: From a Cossack Village to a Modern Settlement

Kulykivka was founded in the first half of the 17th century and assigned to the Divytsia company of the Nizhyn regiment, with Cossacks making up most of the population. In the early 18th century it was a rank village passed to regimental judge Roman Lazarevych, captain Hryhorii Romanovskyi and judge Semen Chuikevych. A zemstvo hospital opened in 1875, and in 1893 narrow-gauge trains began running past on the Chernihiv–Kruty line. Kulykivka became a district centre in 1923, got a flax mill in 1935 and received urban-type settlement status in 1960.

Local Natives

Kulykivka native Mark Huz (1919–1990) was a Hero of the Soviet Union. Ihor Snizhok (1973–2015), an officer of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, was born in the settlement and is buried there; he was posthumously awarded the Order of Bohdan Khmelnytsky, 3rd class. Sergeant Leonid Yanhol (1978–2023) was posthumously named a Hero of Ukraine in 2024.

Kulykivka Today

The settlement has St Michael's Church in its centre, a local history museum and a professional agrarian lyceum. The local economy includes the Kulykivske Moloko dairy. Flowers can be delivered to any part of Kulykivka.
