Lypova Dolyna: from its first record to today

Lypova Dolyna is known from 1647, when the French engineer Guillaume Le Vasseur de Beauplan marked the settlement at the upper Khorol on a map for his Description of Ukraine; it already had 150 households. In 1648–1657 the village joined the Myrhorod Regiment, and in 1709 the Swedish army of Charles XII passed through, keeping a field hospital here. In 1764 Catherine II granted the village to Hetman Kyrylo Rozumovsky. In 1923 Lypova Dolyna became a district centre.

Notable people of Lypova Dolyna

The historian, ethnographer and teacher Viktor Andriievsky (1911–1977) and the physical geographer and palaeogeographer Volodymyr Hrychuk (1907–1999) were both born here.

Lypova Dolyna today

The settlement lies on the Khorol River where the Bezimenna flows into it. Its name is linked either to the Lypivka stream or to the lime trees that grow here in abundance. The main church is the Holy Trinity Church, built on the site of a former Cossack cathedral and consecrated in 2016. The town even has its own anthem.
