Nova Ushytsia, once called Litnivtsi

The history of Nova Ushytsia begins in 1439, when the nobleman Senko received a royal charter for Litnivtsi, as the settlement was then called. Litnivtsi was granted Magdeburg rights in 1702–1703, and in 1829 the town was renamed Nova Ushytsia after the district whose earlier centre was Ushytsia on the Dniester. The 1899 census counted 6,541 residents, 739 houses and 44 shops. In autumn 1919 the local garrison was commanded by Colonel Mykhailo Shulai of the Ukrainian People's Republic Army, and in 1924 the town became an urban-type settlement.

Nova Ushytsia is the birthplace of Yurii Filatov (born 1948), a two-time Olympic canoe champion in 1972 and 1976, the publisher and teacher Pavlo Kukuruza (1896–1978) and the actor Oleksandr Movchan (1932–2006), Honoured Artist of Ukraine. The community honours its native Oleksandr Dziubeliuk (1990–2014), a senior lieutenant of the State Border Guard Service who served in the Russian-Ukrainian war.

The settlement sits on the slopes of a hill washed by the Kalius River, with the Kalius Landscape Reserve to the north and south. Landmarks include the Catholic Church of the Transfiguration, the Church of Sts. Borys and Hlib (2009), the Ryngach manor, the market square with old Jewish houses and the former zemstvo hospital.
