Pryluky: a bit of history

The first written record of Pryluky belongs to Volodymyr Monomakh, who described a campaign of 1085 in his Instruction to his children. The Cumans took the town in 1092, and after the Mongol invasion of 1239 it was rebuilt only in the 15th century by the Hlynskyi princes. Later it passed to the Wi?niowiecki princes and received Magdeburg rights. In 1648 the Pryluky Cossack Regiment was formed; Colonel Dmytro Horlenko, who led it in 1692–1708, expanded and fortified the town.

Famous people of Pryluky

Pryluky is the birthplace of educator Anton Prokopovych-Antonskyi (1762–1848), writer and lexicographer Pavlo Biletskyi-Nosenko (1774–1856) and actor Mykola Yakovchenko (1900–1974), who has a monument in the town. Biathlete Valentyna Tserbe-Nesina won independent Ukraine's first Olympic medal.

Pryluky today

The town stands on the Udai River, 135 km from Kyiv. Its oldest masonry building is the regimental treasury, next to the Church of the Saviour with a gate bell tower (1720). Also notable are the Nativity of the Theotokos Cathedral (1806–1817), the Presentation Cathedral (1889) and the local history museum. Pryluky is an oil and gas centre and hosts the Mystetski Barvy youth festival. We deliver bouquets to any address in Pryluky.
