Romny: a little history

Romny, then called Romen, is first mentioned in Volodymyr Monomakh's «Instruction» under the year 1096. Physicist Abram Ioffe (1880–1960), one of the founders of solid-state physics, was born in Romny. Sculptor Ivan Kavaleridze (1887–1978) created the town's Shevchenko monument.
