Sharhorod: a little history
The first written record of Sharhorod is linked to a charter of the Lithuanian prince Vytautas dated 1383. The town is named after Florian Szary, the legendary founder of the Zamoyski family. Its owner and builder was Crown Chancellor Jan Zamoyski: in 1585 a fortress designed by the architect Bernardo Morando began to rise here for him, and in 1588 the town received Magdeburg rights and the right to hold three annual fairs. From 1672 to 1699 Sharhorod was under Ottoman rule and was called Kuchuk-Stambul. During the Second World War it held one of the largest ghettos of Transnistria. Sharhorod has had town status since 1986.
Famous names linked to Sharhorod
Two classics of Ukrainian literature studied at the local theological school: Mykhailo Kotsiubynskyi (1864–1913), who enrolled in 1876, and Stepan Rudanskyi (1834–1873), author of the famous humorous verse tales.
Sharhorod today
Sharhorod, home to about 7,000 people, is the centre of the Sharhorod urban hromada in Zhmerynka district, Vinnytsia region. The town lies on the Murashka River and is one of the best-preserved Renaissance towns of Podillia, with monuments of three faiths: the walls and tower of Sharhorod Castle with the Zamoyski stone house, the Sharhorod Synagogue (1589), St. Florian's Church (1595) and St. Nicholas Monastery with its 1829 cathedral. Sugar making, milling, leatherwork and shoemaking were its traditional trades. We deliver flowers to any address in Sharhorod — home, office or a festive table.
Reasons for a Bouquet
March 8 and February 14 are the busiest days for flowers, so it is best to order early. A bouquet for a birthday, an anniversary or just because can be ordered for a specific date and time. Flowers for teachers on September 1 are a long tradition, and in late May and June bouquets go to graduations.
