Stetsivka: a village on the Tiasmyn

The village was founded in the 17th century on the right bank of the Tiasmyn River, 11 km from Chyhyryn. In 1886 Stetsivka was the centre of a volost in Oleksandriia county, with 3,861 residents, 728 households, a school and a post station. By the 1897 census it had 4,724 people. The village appears in Yurii Horlis-Horskyi's novel Kholodnyi Yar, which describes the villagers' 1920 stand against the Bolsheviks. It was liberated from Nazi occupation on 9 December 1943.

Locals of note

Ivan Ivanov (1924-1950), a full cavalier of the Order of Glory, was born in Stetsivka. So was Hryhorii Kozakov (1947-2009), a television journalist and Honoured Journalist of Ukraine.

Landmarks and local features

Near the village the Yar Berestovyi ravine meets the Chutka River, and the Sukhi Kolodky tract lies close by. Stetsivka has the Holy Trinity Church and a local history museum opened in 1967. A milling museum is part of the Cossack Khutir ethnographic and tourist complex, which includes an 18th-century wooden church. In 1956 archaeologists found a Slavic settlement near the village.
