What to know about Velyka Berezovytsia
Velyka Berezovytsia appears in archival records of 1458 and 1474; its first known owners were the Buczacki family of the Abdank coat of arms. By the late 18th century the name already carried the prefix Velyka (Great), a primary school opened in 1848, and in early 1897 a railway to Khodoriv opened with Berezovytsia-Ostriv station. In 1936–1938 the community built a People's House, and the Podillia sugar factory was founded at the same time. The village became an urban-type settlement on 6 July 1957.

Natives include poet and playwright Levko Krupa (1943–2000), Sich Rifleman Mykola Pachovskyi (1894–1968), who helped raise the Ukrainian flag over Lviv town hall on 1 November 1918, engineering scholar Roman Rohatynskyi (b. 1955) and medic and volunteer Ivanka Chobaniuk (b. 1993), a People's Hero of Ukraine. Priest Yosyf Skomorovskyi (1815–1891), compiler of a five-volume Ukrainian-Polish dictionary, served here, and Olympic biathlon champion Olena Pidhrushna lived here.

The settlement lies on the Seret River 6 km from central Ternopil, on the E85 road and the Ternopil–Chortkiv railway. Sights include the Church of the Ascension (1859–1861), a Roman Catholic chapel (1899) with a stone bell tower (1933), the Taras Shevchenko monument by Mykola Neveselyi (1993), an 18th-century marker commemorating a lord's daughter saved from wolves, and the Holy Trinity Spring.
