Zinkiv, a former Magdeburg-law town

Zinkiv's recorded history begins in 1404, when King Jogaila granted it to Piotr Szafraniec. In 1458 Ruthenian voivode Andrzej Odrow??, with King Casimir IV's consent, gave Zinkiv Magdeburg rights, and it became the main town of a district reaching the Dniester. Its castle withstood a Turkish and Tatar siege in 1524. Under the Princes of W?rttemberg healing baths opened, and in 1820 a water main and a market fountain were built. In 1923 Zinkiv became a district centre.

Notable people of Zinkiv

Natives include priest and poet Yuliian Dobrylovskyi (1760—1825), Zaporozhian Cossack poet Ivan Karnaukh (born 1747), Israeli writer Yitzhak Orpaz (1921—2015) and TV journalist Alla Mazur (born 1965).

Landmarks and local character

The village lies on the Ushytsia River. One tower survives of the 15th-century castle, beside the Holy Trinity Church restored in 1708; there is also the wooden St Michael's Church (1769) and the Trinity Church (1621). Zinkiv is known for pottery, furriery, its beer and sausage, and lies on the Camino Podolico. We deliver flowers anywhere in Zinkiv.
